It can be challenging to distinguish between misdemeanors and felonies. Nevertheless, a misdemeanor and a felony have widely accepted definitions. A felony is any offence for which a person is sentenced to more than 12 months in prison; a misdemeanor is any offence for which the maximum sentence is 12 months in jail.
Misdemeanors and crimes are divided into different categories under federal law. These categories are determined mainly by the seriousness of the offence and the state's criminal legislation, and we provide legal defence for both of them.
